Stud Code of Conduct
Last updated: June 2026
This code applies to everyone advertising a stud dog on Companimal. It forms part of our Terms & Conditions and Listing Rules. A stud dog can father many litters, so responsible health and welfare practice matters more here than almost anywhere else on the platform.
Eligibility
- Your stud must be at least 12 months old.
- Your stud must be microchipped.
- Your stud must not be a banned breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, XL Bully).
- Your stud must not have cropped ears or an illegally docked tail.
Health and testing
- Carry out the health and DNA testing recommended for your breed before advertising your dog at stud, and represent the results honestly.
- Do not stud a dog with a known heritable condition that responsible breeding practice would screen out.
- Keep vaccinations and routine veterinary care up to date.
Welfare and responsible matings
- Only allow your stud to mate with bitches whose owners you reasonably believe meet good welfare standards.
- Do not over-use a stud dog. Allow appropriate rest between matings and consider the welfare of both animals.
- Both dogs' welfare needs (Animal Welfare Act 2006) must be met before, during, and after mating.
- Be honest about temperament, fertility, and any prior litters.
Listing conduct
- Advertise stud services only in the dedicated stud section, never among puppies for sale.
- Keep listings accurate and up to date.
- Respond to genuine enquiries respectfully and promptly.
Enforcement
Breaking this code may result in:
- Suspension — your account and listings are temporarily hidden while we investigate.
- Ban — your account is permanently closed and listings are archived.
If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, see our Complaints & Reporting page or contact support@companimal.co.uk.
This page is a starting template and not legal advice. It must be reviewed and completed by a qualified adviser before launch.
