Selling a litter shouldn't feel like this
"Is it still available?"
Messages from people who haven't read your advert, then go quiet.
"How much?" as the first question
Buyers who care about price before health tests, mum or the home.
Listed next to puppy farms
Responsible breeders judged by the worst adverts on the page.
Paid, then held or removed
Money gone, advert stuck, and no person to ask why.
Companimal is a better way to sell puppies online: a dogs-only marketplace where every listing is checked first, the price is published, and buyers can see what makes you different.
How it works
How to sell puppies online with Companimal
- About 1 minute
Sign up with Google
Or use your email. Your account works across every litter you list.
- A few minutes
Add your litter and pay
Photos, ages and price. The details the law asks for, like your licence number and council, are built into the form.
- Premium reviewed first
A person checks it, you go live
We check your listing, then publish it with your checks on show. Enquiries come straight to you.
Have these ready:
- Photos, including the pups with mum
- Puppies' date of birth
- Microchip details
- Licence number and council, if licensed
What verification does for you
Verified by a human, not an algorithm.
Before your litter goes live, a real person checks it. Licensed breeders also get the Credentialled — Licensed badge, which buyers see straight away.
It shows serious buyers you're a responsible breeder, not a puppy farm, before they've even sent a message.
Your licence, front and centre
If you're licensed, we check your council licence against the register and your listings carry the Credentialled — Licensed badge.
Stand apart from puppy farms
Your checks, the pups with mum and their ages, all shown up front so buyers trust you from the first look.
Never listed next to a dealer
Dealers and third-party sellers can't list, so you're only ever alongside other checked breeders.
Fewer pointless messages
With the key facts already on show, buyers who get in touch have read your listing and mean it.
Pricing
Three simple prices to advertise your puppies. Published, not hidden at checkout.
Every listing is live for 60 days and checked by a person, whichever you choose. The same prices for every breed. Your fee pays for that check, which is what keeps dealers and time-wasters off the site.

Licensed breeder or one family litter? Here's what you'll need.
Licensed breeders
3 or more litters a year, or breeding as a business
- Licence number and issuing council (we match them to the register)
- The Credentialled — Licensed badge on every listing you post
- A breeder profile that builds with every litter you list
A one-off family litter
Usually below the licensing threshold
- No licence number needed under the threshold
- Checked by a person like every listing, so you're never mistaken for a farm
- The same tiers and placement options as licensed breeders

"Responsible breeders deserve better than being listed next to dealers. That's why I built Companimal."
Every listing is checked by a real person before it goes live, and that won't change as we grow. If you breed properly, you should be easy to tell apart from the people who don't.

Before you advertise
Selling puppies: UK law in plain English
Our listing form follows these as you go. Rules change, so check your council's guidance if you're unsure.
8 weeks minimum
Puppies can't be sold or leave mum before 8 weeks. You can advertise sooner.
Microchipped first
Chipped by 8 weeks and registered to you as the first keeper.
Seen with mum
Buyers should meet the puppies with their mother, where they were born.
Sell direct (Lucy's Law)
Under Lucy's Law, puppies are sold by the person who bred them, never through a third party.
Do you need a breeding licence?

| Wales | keep 3 or more breeding bitches and breed 3 or more litters a year, or advertise a business of selling dogs. |

You choose who gets your puppy
Enquiries come to you, and you can say no to anyone. No "first to pay" rules, no pressure to take a deposit.
Safe handover checklist
- Check the money has cleared in your own banking app before the puppy leaves
- Never accept couriers, overpayments or "pending" transfers
- Share your address only when you're ready to arrange a viewing
- Hand over at home with mum present, never at a halfway point
- Transfer the microchip and give a written contract with your paperwork

Questions
Selling puppies: your questions answered
Where can I sell or advertise my puppies?
Most UK breeders use a mix of word of mouth, breed clubs and online pet marketplaces. Facebook doesn't allow animal sales, so choose a site that checks its sellers. On Companimal, every listing is checked by a person before it goes live.
What is the best website to sell puppies in the UK?
Look for three things: sellers are checked before they go live, buyers can see what was checked, and the price is clear upfront. Those are what attract serious buyers and keep dealers out.
How much does it cost to list puppies on Companimal?
Listings start at £15 per litter. There are three tiers: Basic at £15, Standard at £25 and Premium at £40. Every listing stays live for 60 days and is checked by a person before it goes live. Higher tiers add better placement, more photos and a highlighted card, and Premium listings are reviewed first.
What's the difference between Basic, Standard and Premium?
All three are checked by a person and live for 60 days. Basic (£15) gives you standard placement and up to 8 photos. Standard (£25) adds improved placement, up to 16 photos and a highlighted card on our breed and location pages. Premium (£40) gives you top placement, unlimited photos, the highlighted card, and your listing is reviewed first.
Can I advertise my puppies for free?
Free pet selling sites exist, but breeders often find that's where the time-wasters and dealers are. The Pet Advertising Advisory Group encourages sites to use paywalls and checks for exactly that reason. Companimal charges a fixed fee so every listing can be checked by a person.
How old do puppies have to be to sell?
In the UK, puppies must be at least 8 weeks old before they're sold or leave their mother. You can advertise your litter before then, so buyers are lined up by the time they're ready.
Do I need a licence to sell puppies?
In England, you need a council licence if you breed 3 or more litters in 12 months, or breed and sell dogs as a business. A one-off family litter usually doesn't need one. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules, shown in the table above.
Do puppies have to be microchipped and vaccinated before selling?
Microchipping is a legal requirement: puppies must be chipped by 8 weeks and registered to you. Vaccination isn't a legal requirement before sale, but most buyers expect first vaccinations and a vet check.
How much should I sell my puppies for?
It depends on breed, health testing, registration and where you live. Work out what the litter cost you, then look at checked listings for your breed nearby. A price that's too low can attract resellers.
Should I take a deposit for a puppy?
It's your choice. If you do, agree in writing what happens if either of you changes your mind. Some breeders avoid deposits because they make it harder to say no to the wrong home.
Do I have to declare income from selling puppies?
It depends on your circumstances. HMRC has a £1,000 trading allowance, and regular breeding may count as trading. Check HMRC's guidance or ask an accountant.
Can I advertise puppies on Facebook?
No. Facebook's commerce rules don't allow animals to be bought or sold, and posts offering puppies are often removed.
Your litter deserves better than a comment thread.
